Online Poker lets you enjoy everyone's favorite card
game without having to leave the comfort of your own
living room. By playing Online Poker, you can be
yourself, veiled with the Internet's anonymity, and not
worry about giving away your hands. A common problem
with poker is that others, who are perhaps more skilled
at reading people than they are at actually playing, can
beat you. But, in an Online Poker game, it is skill
against skill.

According to Professor Rose Nelson of Whittier Law
School, "it depends mostly on where you live. It depends
also on how the game is being run. And, in the real
world, it depends on whether anyone is going to do
anything about it.
"Federal law is clear. The federal government's interest
in gambling is pretty much limited to organized crime.
Federal statutes are written with phrases like, "Whoever
being engaged in the business of betting or wagering...
"or "Whoever conducts, finances, manages, supervises,
directs, or owns all or part of an illegal gambling
business... "
"A
regular player cannot get into trouble with the federal
government even if the gambling operation is blatantly
illegal, unless he does something to help the business.
Prosecutors have charged players with being part of the
gambling business when they helped operators collect
debts from other players. But the very few times the
federal Department of Justice has gone after regular
players, judges have thrown the cases out."
Online Poker--is it safe?
There are risks to Online Poker; with the ease of
playing at home come some serious problems that you
should take into account. For example: the possibility
that the site you are playing on will stiff you your
money, the possibility that your opponents are actually
the same person, the possibility that the technology
will not deal you a fair game, etc. Take these into
