Bets for Popular Reality TV Show ‘The Amazing Race’ Come to a Standstill
30
September 2005
This is the second time in just six
months that the popular Sportsbook.com has announced
that all bets on the reality TV series ‘The Amazing
Race’, beginning on September 27th have been stopped.
The reason is due to the fact that the company suspects
the winner of the show has already leaked out, giving
not so credible gamblers a rather unfair advantage.
Sportsbook.com is the world’s largest sportsbook and is
also an online casino. The odds makers of the company
have discovered irregular wagering patterns on the Linz
Family, one of the families competing in “The Amazing
Race”. Recently a huge number of bets have surfaced from
gamblers in Ohio, the American state where the Linz
Family resides. Furthermore, these bets have all been
made at the maximum possible wager.
Only six months ago in March, the same irregular
wagering occurred at Sportsbook for this same reality TV
show. During that time the betting trend was focused
around the contestants Joyce and Uchenna. As soon as it
was suspected something suspicious was going on,
Sportsbook immediately put a stop to the betting. And
low and behold when the season finally came to an end,
Joyce and Uchenna turned out to be the winners of the
Amazing Race, proving the suspicions of Sportsbook.
The Marketing Director of Sportsbook.com, Alex
Czajkowski said that unfortunately there is always risk
involved when wagering for these shows, as there is
always a chance that information will leak out, and some
people will do everything they can to try and take
advantage of the situation. Sportsbook decided to offer
odds once more to their customers this year, due to the
fact that vast majority of their clientele really wanted
it.
Reality TV is a huge part of Sportsbook’s business, but
they put fairness above wagering, and due to their
latest suspicions they simply cannot accept any more
bets for ‘The Amazing Race’. Nevertheless, those who are
interested in joining in the Reality TV wagering,
Sportsbook is offering odds on other programs including
‘The Apprentice’ , ‘The Apprentice-Martha Stewart’ and
‘Survivor’.
