New Anti-Fraud Technology
27
October 2005
With all of the fraud that goes on in the
world both on and offline, many companies are constantly
on the look out for the software that will provide them
with the best security and fraud detection. Recently
Metacharge, a payment service provider that is often
used in the online gambling industry, has created a fast
ID verification and status process. Although it is
believed to be extremely effective, its one downside is
the cost.
It was reported by Out-Law.com that this new technology
allows website operators to check the age, identity and
vital statistics of their customers against the BT
directory enquiries, a mortality database, the UK
Electoral Roll and a credit reference database. What’s
more is this check can be completed within less than 2
seconds.
London-based Metacharge is currently working with
192.com to integrate the automated age and identity
checking service into payment processing. As was
previously mentioned, this anti-fraud service is quite
pricey (about 1.50 pounds per query) however, Metacharge
has pointed out that although their service certainly
isn’t cheap, neither is fraudulent charge usage which
currently costs more than 1 million pounds a day – and
that’s only in the UK alone.
Scott Law, the Managing Director of Metacharge has said
that online gaming is, simply put, “a magnet for fraud”.
Law said that the fastest growing type of identity theft
is stealing the identities of dead people and using them
to gain credit. This is the main reason why the new
fraud detecting system checks against the mortality
database, as it will inform the internet casino
conducting the check if the poker player in question is
in actuality a corpse.
Metachrage has every confidence that there new
anti-fraud technology will be a success, and those
online gambling institutions that use it will find that
this excpeptional service is well worth the money.
