Study Shows Online Casinos Appeal to a Predominant Male Demographic
14
October 2005
Recently a study was done that revealed
the vast majority of online players who are interested
in online casinos are male. This shouldn’t come as much
of a surprise, especially since gambling games have
always appealed to men since the dawn of their creation.
Currently the age range which the online casino market
targets are men aged 18-35 years.
Let’s face it, traditional gambling has always been
popular among the male population; however, by
integrating it with the World Wide Web, gambling has
become especially popular among young men more than ever
before. In a recent study that was conducted among
internet users, almost 90% of them said that they would
choose playing at an online casino over any other
Internet past-time.
Moreover, it was found that the vast majority of the
poled web users even preferred playing at online casinos
more so than going to the local pub, watching a game on
TV or going out with the opposite sex. It has further
been discovered that the ever growing popularity of
internet gambling generates approximately £5 billion
annually in the UK alone. And internet gambling
encompasses more than online casinos, it also includes
poker, blackjack, sporting events, lotteries, and even
horseracing.
The study also showed that a number of negative aspects
have sprouted from online gambling, such as the fact
that men with gambling addictions can easily access
thousands of online gambling sources with the simple
click of a mouse. Therefore, while it is clear that
online gambling has become one of the more favored past
times, it can also be an extremely dangerous hobby for
addicts who simply have no control, and don’t know when
to quit.
Finally, another study was recently done and while it
shows that men are still the dominant audience when it
comes to online gambling, more and more the number of
women interested in the online casino gambling industry
continues on a steady climb. Of course, only time will
tell if women ever equal men when it comes to the online
casino audience; but for now, there is no questions that
men still have a dominant lead in the online gambling
industry.
