More British Online
Casinos continue to Surface on the Internet
29
November 2005
The number of online casinos being
released in Britain is on a steady rise, and it is
estimated that this rise could cause an increase of 50%,
which would mean the total number of sites would reach
211. This is a truly amazing number, which is further
proof of how well the online gambling industry is doing
in the British market alone.
However, although more and more British online casinos
continue to surface on the internet, the new Gambling
Act has yet to be put in place. Therefore, all the
applications concerning new casino licenses have been
granted under the old regulations. That being the case,
it will be interesting to see what the new terms and
conditions of the act will impose on the gambling
industry in the upcoming years.
To give you an idea of how online casinos are rapidly
increasing in Britain, one of Britain’s largest online
casino groups, Stanley Leisure, which already has 41
operating sites, is hoping to launch 8 new sites by the
end of this year. Imagine, that will total the group’s
sites to an astounding 49 online casinos. When you stop
to think about it, this is a truly amazing fact,
especially since Stanley Leisure only counts for one of
the groups hoping to release new sites.
Tessa Jowell, the Culture Secretary, spoke of her
concerns about the increase of applications and
implemented a cut-off date for submissions regarding the
old legislations which will occur in April of 2006. Once
the new Gambling Act comes into effect, casino groups
will no longer be able to have more than 17 sites. The
focus of the new act is to create larger online casinos,
as well as an establishment that is based on the look of
a Las Vegas resort.
