Alcatraz Swim is Sponsored by Golden Palace Online Casino

November 2005
Golden Palace Online Casino, known for
their eccentric tastes in trophies and sponsoring wild
events in the name of charity, has recently sponsored
retired U.S. Marine Corps Gunnery Sergeant, Jay “Patch”
Platt, to swim the 1 ½ mile distance that resides
between Alcatraz Island and San Francisco. Not only did
Platt manage to swim the distance, but he did it with
his feet and hands tied.
Jay “Patch” Platt was inspired to take the swim after
reading an article which informed him that only two
other men were known to have accomplished this swim. The
two men were Jack Lalanee, a fitness master, and Alberto
Christini, an Italian swimmer.
Platt commented that he was looking for a new challenge
as a way to raise awareness in order to help wounded
Marines that are returning to the U.S. from the war in
Afghanistan and Iraq. Having lost an eye himself, Platt
can empathize with the soldiers, and he wanted to do
something to help their plight. That’s when he learned
about the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund and organization
which helps marines and sailors injured during the war
against terrorism.
Jay “Patch” Platt was so inspired by the accomplishments
of Christini and Lalanne that he decided swimming from
Alcatraz to San Francisco was the exact challenge he was
looking for. Platt believed this was the ideal way to
support the Semper Fi Fun, and was also a great way to
show other that no matter what life throws your way, you
can overcome many great challenges, even if the
obstacles seem impossible.
Platt was sponsored by Golden Palace Online Casino, who
sent a $5000 check to the Semper Fi Fund on his behalf.
Golden Palace was extremely pleased to be apart of this
successful event.
