Online Casino Auction is stopped by eBay
14
December 2005
BetbyInternet, a popular online casino
and sportsbook, has announced that their $100 thousand
dollar auction that was posted on eBay has been halted
by eBay. The auction was for a pre-paid online gambling
membership. According to eBay, they stopped the
BetbyInternet’s auction as they believed it to be
“encouraging illegal actions”.
Apparently, the lot turned out to be less than 50 per
cent of the original value of $100 thousand dollars, and
actually had a reserve value of only $49 thousand
dollars. After looking into it eBay pulled the plug on
the auction, and this didn’t seem to come as much of a
surprise to BetbyInternet.
In fact, according to the director of promotions for
BetbyInternet, Lee Samuels, he said that he was rather
surprised that it took the legal team of eBay almost 2
full days to discover the details of the auction, and
finally react to it by choosing to stop the auction.
Samules comments that eBay sent an email addressed to
their promotions department explaining that their
auction “encouraged illegal actions”. All in all,
BetbyInternet finds it interesting that it took eBay’s
legal department so long to finally decide to close
their auction.
BetbyInternet is not concerned about the loss of their
first auction, and has plans to list an auction that was
similar to their first, except with a slightly different
twist. Their new promotion is going to be a Las Vegas
gambling trip. BetbyInternet’s Vice-Presiden of
Operations, Randal Zuniga, believes that due to the fact
that gambling is legal in Vegas, eBay shouldn’t have an
issue with their new auction type. For now, they’ll
simply have to wait and see if eBay agrees.
